Serialize a medicine box
Perform serialization with PharmaliZr, the system for fighting falsified medicines in France.
Description
Perform serialization with PharmaliZr, the system for fighting falsified medicines in France.
Performing serialization allows verifying the authenticity of a medicine from its distribution to its effective dispensing to the patient.
During distribution, the system assigns a unique identifier to each medicine box in the form of a Datamatrix code. This code, along with all box codes, is stored in a centralized database. During dispensing, the code is scanned and compared to those in the central database to verify the medicine’s authenticity. In addition, each serialized medicine has an anti-tampering device.
How to perform serialization with the PharmaliZr scanner?
Once identified, the user is redirected to the PharmaliZr application home page.
The scan function for the Datamatrix code is enabled by default. You can scan the Datamatrix code of a medicine box using:
- a scanner-type scanner PharmaliZr;
- a preconfigured PDA with the PharmaliZr application.
The serialized medicine appears in the serialization list, segmented by dates and by operators who have performed serializations.

If you have a configured scanner connected to the user’s computer, scanning a Datamatrix code allows querying the European database.
Depending on your network speed, an instant response indicating the box status is returned. A response line on your serialization status is added to the list of already serialized medicines.
How to perform manual serialization?
Once connected to the PharmaliZr application, the serialization screen allows you to query the medicines database.

When you click on the manual serialization button, you activate text entry mode. The serialization window appears and allows you to enter product information.

Once the entry window is open, you can enter the information present on the medicine box next to the Datamatrix code.

Here is the Datamatrix code data:
| Field Name | Prefix | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Product Code or GTIN | PC | The GTIN “Global Trade Item Number” is the GS1 code that allows unique identification of the medicine. This number is often displayed under the Codabar previously used. |
| Expiry Date or S.K.T | EXP | Expiration date |
| Batch Number/Lot Code | Lot | Batch number |
| Serial Number or Serial | SN | Serial number |
| NHRN | NN | National reimbursement number |
Serialization is complete once:
- you have entered all the information shown on the medicine box;
- you have queried the remote server hosting the European NMVS database with the “SERIALIZE” button.
Your medicine then appears in first position in the list of serialized boxes, with the response indicating its status.
